In addition to the newly rebranded Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and 11 outpatient centers located throughout Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, and Lee counties, the health system includes the following: Miami Children’s Health Foundation, the organization’s fundraising arm; Pediatric Specialists of America Inc., a nonprofit physician practice subsidiary; a management services organization; an ambulatory surgery center; and a line of children’s wellness products branded KidzStuff™.

System-wide organizational changes have led to a Miami Children’s Health System that is more integrated than ever before, as well as a heightened focus and dedication to realizing its philanthropic potential. Executive and board leadership are committed to investing the resources necessary for the Miami Children’s Health Foundation to significantly increase philanthropic revenues, commensurate with its standing among the elite children’s health systems in the world, and allowing for reorganization of the foundation as necessary to achieve its ambitious goals.

 

Amid this environment of change, the Miami Children’s Health Foundation seeks its next President. S/he oversees the efforts of approximately 48 staff, as well as volunteers, to develop and mobilize resources. Reporting to the CEO of the Miami Children’s Health System and Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, and with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the foundation’s board of directors, of which s/he is also a member, the President is responsible for the strategic leadership of the organization to ensure its future relevance, credibility, and viability. The President is responsible for establishing organizational objectives and priorities, and for reviewing and evaluating the progress and work for attainment of objectives and performance goals. S/he will be charged with aggressively expanding donor discovery and engagement at a national and international scale, shifting from an events focus to a major gifts focus, and championing a system-wide culture of philanthropy. While the health system refines its considerable cachet as a charity of choice in South Florida, the foundation must also strengthen its donor networks in other high-potential locales. The President will expand the foundation’s team of development officers to include individuals based in other geographic zones, potentially including staff assigned to the Middle East and Latin America, among other prospective satellite offices.

 

The President of the Miami Children’s Health Foundation will balance strategic leadership with her/his own frontline fundraising activity to secure maximum philanthropic support, focusing on high-net-worth donors and enhanced principal gift activity. The President will be a key face of the Miami Children’s Health System and Nicklaus Children’s Hospital to the external community, communicating patient, research, and education opportunities to donors, volunteer leadership, and other key stakeholders. S/he will help the CEO to break down traditional siloes in the organization by working with transparency and visibility. The President must be fully committed to and relentlessly driven by the organization’s mission, translating that mission in donor-specific ways that inspire meaningful engagement and support. The President will lead all campaign-related activities.

 

Critical competencies for success: experience realigning and/or optimizing the organizational structure while providing management oversight, and leadership direction, which includes shaping messages, and extracting and analyzing data to make effective, efficient decisions about donor strategy and process; strength in developing complex fundraising plans and executing against those plans to achieve ambitious goals and objectives that are aligned to the Miami Children’s Health System and Nicklaus Children’s Hospital’s strategic initiatives; and able to effectively strategize and engage external corporate groups, and develop an effective fundraising structure in multiple geographic locations, while continuing to move individuals across the spectrum of prospect development into becoming seven-figure donors. Other required qualifications and experience: bachelor’s degree; minimum of 10 years of experience in progressively responsible development leadership positions, which includes work in all functional areas (individual giving, institutional giving, planned giving, stewardship, board relations) and participation in a major capital campaign (planning, implementation, management, and successful conclusion), for a healthcare, higher education, nonprofit, or other institution of similar complexity with multiple stakeholders; previous work experience with hospital and grateful patient fundraising is a plus; at least five to eight years of significant supervisory experience, including experience creating and managing a budget; dedication to the mission and goals of the Miami Children’s Health System and Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.
