DIRECTOR OF PLANNED and MAJOR GIFTS

REPORTS TO:  VICE PRESIDENT OF DEVELOPMENT

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of Planned and Major Gifts will be responsible for cultivating both major gifts and planned gifts from among Jackson Health Foundation’s supporters in the community and from grateful patients of Jackson Health System.  The Planned and Major Gifts Director will:

 

Develop a portfolio of 100 to 150 donors and a significant goal of securing gifts of $10,000 and above and planned gifts of $50,000 and above, and create successful cultivation and solicitation strategies for five, six and seven figure gifts;

Manage relationships with assigned current donors to ensure their continued engagement and increased support for the Foundation; working with medical staff, identify and cultivate new donors from grateful patients;

Assess the capacity of donors and prospective donors in order to secure cash gifts, cash pledges and planned gifts, in that order; 

Develop a strategic planned giving plan with measurable and steadily increasing goals for securing planned gifts, and prepare regular communications to the Foundation’s donors to make them aware of planned giving options;

Draw up, review and execute donor-related legal documents, such as gift agreements and planned gift agreements;

Organize an annual planned giving seminar for the Foundation’s donors and prospective donors;

Meet with planned giving prospects and their advisors, prepare financial illustrations of proposed gifts, and draft gift agreements for review by prospects and their advisors;

Prepare planned gift agreements and calculate rates using planned giving software and comply with legal requirements for recordkeeping, reporting and documentation.

Be responsible for educating development colleagues about available planned giving vehicles and any changes to rules governing those vehicles;

Adhere diligently to the Foundation’s moves management and reporting process on the cultivation and solicitation of donors, ensuring proper documentation of their progress;

Effectively engage prospective donors and communicate about Jackson Health System and raise funds for the priority projects of the Foundation and Jackson Health System.

Be a good colleague and contribute to the successful cultivation of the best gift for the donor and for the Foundation, working cooperatively with all development officers on the staff.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree and minimum five to seven years of planned giving experience and demonstrated experience in soliciting gifts.  Work in a hospital and/or academic medical center setting a plus.  The successful candidate will have a strong knowledge of estate planning, including wills, trusts and estate and gift tax laws.  

 

REQUIRED SKILLS: Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule, including some evenings and weekends. Excellent relationship skills.  Excellent organizational skills.  Excellent written communication skills.
